Six Word Memoirs On Intimate Relationships

by Judith Rich on March 10, 2010

Apparently, many of you were also bitten by the “Six Word Memoir bug” , as I received many responses to my invitation to write a memoir telling the story of your intimate relationships.  I’ll be posting them here over the next couple of days, so please stay tuned and check back to read yours.

Meanwhile, one friend sat down and wrote what almost reads like a short story on the subject, composed of six word sentences.   With her permission, I share it with you here.  See what it evokes in you.

Sleeping in double bed, waiting.

Aging passion turned into quiet companionship.

Your shoes sit beside the door.

Love stayed around when you left.

Widow seeking partner: must love wrinkles.

Why did I choose you instead?

Roommate wanted: husband left house empty.

Broken Hearts Club closed after wedding.

What have we got to lose?

Call me tomorrow, I’m happy today.

The children will not be affected.

Being alone is not necessarily loneliness.

I had forgotten we once loved.

Did you notice I was gone?

While loving you, I lost me.

Single man disguised as loving husband.

Hearing a giggle makes me remember.

Photographs don’t really tell the story.

Before you arrived, I loved everyone.

My mind spins false love stories.

First kisses are usually not first.

Hot passion waited for your call.

Loving you was a blessing disguised.

Remember when we whispered loving words?

Don’t forget, send back my heart.

Crying for you was wasted time.

I’m laughing just thinking of you.

Listen, love must be calling again.

Sleepwalking through marriage causes painful falls.

Falling in love makes landing risky.

Vacant heart available; love left abruptly.

Thanks to Sue Alexander for this poignant and provocative piece of writing.
